Historical Art Project with Whistler Secondary
Over the past few weeks, students in Whistler Secondary's Grade 11 Art class have been exercising their creative expression and getting better acquainted with their local heritage with a new project in partnership with the Whistler Museum. They've been hard at work crafting original art inspired by historical photographs from the Whistler Archives. The parameters for the project were wide open, but the finished projects are for more than mere reproductions, as the students needed to alter the original images in some important manner to make a personal statement about Whistler's past, and its relationship to our present, and even our future.
Currently in-progress, the projects look great and will be finished in early October. Once completed they will be on display at the Whistler Museum in time for a vernissage on Tuesday October 16th, from 5:30-7:00pm. All are welcome to this free event. For those that can't make it to the reception, the works will be on display at the museum until the 28th of October. As well, the artwork will be photograhed and permanently displayed on our website. Check back mid-October to see the finished projects!
