Archives

What are archives?
Archival materials are usually original, unique and unpublished items which are judged to be of permanent significance.  They are non-current records which document activities of an individual or an organization.  They are preserved because they illustrate issues of administrative, legal, historical or cultural significance.

Archives are frequently associated with textual materials such as correspondence, diaries and manuscripts.  However, archival records may be in any medium including photographs, maps, architectural drawings, video and audio files, and computer disks.

The word 'archives' has several meanings.  Archives are records created, accumulated and used by an individual, family or corporate body.  Archives are also a physical site for archival records.

The Whistler Archives
Our Archives hold a variety of interesting documents and over 6000 photographs. This includes items such as a copy of the first Whistler Question newspaper ever produced, contemporary photographs by local Black Bear Researcher Michael Allen, Myrtle Philip's personal correspondence, and early forestry maps.
