Collections - Artifacts
The Whistler Museum and Archives Society
holds many significant objects and textual records from the early
pioneer days in Alta Lake through to today. Our collection focuses
on the pioneer era, resort history, natural history and the archives.
Pioneer Era
We have many interesting objects that
relate to the early pioneer and lodge life in the community
of Alta Lake. Original furniture from Rainbow Lodge and Myrtle
Philip's personal quilt are highlights of the collection.
Mountain and Resort History
The development of skiing in Whistler
has created facinating memorabilia from the 1960's and onward.
We have some good examples of skis, boots, and outerwear from
the original skiers, as well as Whistler Mountain staff uniforms
and other examples of early "logo wear".
Natural History
We have a unique collection of local
and trans-migratory birds in our natural history collection.
This collection is the only one of its kind in BC. We were
able to develop the collection and the exhibitition in partnership
with A.W.A.R.E (Association of Whistler Area Residents for
the Environment). We are currently developing partnerships
with the Whistler Naturalists to enable more bird displays
and the Fisheries Stewarship Group which will culminate in
a series of oral histories and a museum display.
Olympic History
The Museum has an extensive collection of documents and artifacts from the six Olympic bids made by Whistler. The Olympic dream has played an important role in the development of the mountains and local community.
