stage set for a clash of the icons
Whistler’s favourite personalities strap on the gloves in a verbal gladiator match over Whistler’s greatest icon. Full of stand-up storytelling and verbal takedowns, it’s sure to get a little rowdy!
Icon inspired brawlers include GD Maxwell, Dave Steers, Heather Paul, Marianne Wade, Leslie Anthony, Chris Quinlan and Ken Melamed. Whose icon will be your favourite? Refereed by non other than Maureen Douglas this event is sure to be a wild smash hit! Make sure you are there to cheer, laugh and boo!
This year’s Icon Gone event will be accompanied by a silent auction of five iconic photos from the Whistler Museum’s archives. This is a chance for you to take home a piece of Whistler’s history. All proceeds from the auction and the event go to the Whistler Museum. Event is sponsored by the Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival, the Pique Newsmagazine, & the BC Government.

Community Now: Made in Whistler
Film Screening @ Millennium Place
What does it mean to be a kid growing up in Whistler?
The film Community Now: Made in Whistler scribbles out Whistler’s amazing kids whose talents aren’t just confined to ski racing gates. The 35-minute film follows everyone from an 18-year-old EMI recording artist and a nine-year-old painter who sells her works for $500 to a 16-year-old freeride mountain biker who nailed the first competition double back flip in the world. Presented by the Whistler Museum, Made in Whistler is one of four films produced as part of the Community Now film series documenting Whistler’s history. Join the community to learn about young Olympic dreams of competing in skeleton and what excuses parents use to get out of work on a 20-centimetre powder day. The event is free with a reception of live entertainment and a student art exhibit beforehand. |
